冷床是中小型棒材車間不可缺少的輔助設備之一。它的功能是將軋機軋制后經飛剪剪切成倍尺長度的棒材, 輸送并卸到冷床齒條上冷卻, 使其溫度由900℃降至100 ～ 300℃。

流態(tài)冷床法的基本原理是：利用一定速度的氣流吹動沸騰床上的固體顆粒，使之處于懸浮運動狀態(tài)，依靠煤氣在流態(tài)層中的燃燒，使流態(tài)層具有要求的溫度，線材從中通過時冷卻，完成奧氏體的分解轉變。
